Park & Play in Savannah City Market

Welcome to Savanah, Georgia where the weather is warm, and the people are filled with southern hospitality. Savannah is most known for its historical attractions, unique squares, and downtown district. As most people who visit use their own vehicles or rent one, a big part of traveling to Savannah is knowing where to park and when. This quick guide will explain the different places to park and the local rules of parking along with prices.

Parking Garages

In Savannah, we have a number of different parking garages that are available for anyone to use. The parking garages with easy access to Savannah City Market are the Whitaker Parking Garage, Robinson Parking Garage, and State Street Parking Garage. Each parking garage has different pricing for their hourly parking during the week and different flat rates for the weekend. FYI: The Whitaker Parking Garage is closest to the City Market.

Parking Lots

There are quite a few different parking lots in Savannah available to anyone at any time. Some of these lots are by the hour only or by the day. This sometimes is more convenient to those who know that they will be in a general area all day. The closest parking lot to the City Market is the 300-348 W Bryan Street Parking.

Street Parking

There are thousands of street parking lots that use meters, which you would think that there’s more than enough places to park, but it can be chaotic on the weekends or during holidays. With that being said from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday are the paid parking days and times for street parking North of Liberty Street. This means that street parking North of Liberty Street is FREE on Sunday. Parking South of Liberty Street is paid parking from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. What is even better is that parking on Saturday AND Sunday are FREE! If you are parking within the paid parking times, there is a quick and simple way to pay for parking on the street.

Payment for Parking

There are two main options for paying for street parking in Savannah, GA. Those two options are paying at the meter or paying on the Park Savannah App. Paying at the parking meter is simple but requires a little more time to find the meter or change to use. Paying for parking using the Parking Savannah App is quick and effective, therefore, to make it even quicker, we will explain the steps, so you already know what to do!

Steps for Paying for Parking on Park Savannah App

  1. Download ParkSavannah from your App store
  2. Create Your Account
  3. Enter Vehicle information and Payment method
  4. Enter your parking space number and choose preferred parking duration
  5. Enjoy your time in Savannah, GA

Welcome back Signature Gallery of Savannah!

Signature Gallery has been part of the Savannah City Market family since 1992. After the unexpected close-down of our shops and galleries in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are happy to welcome them back! During the closing, they were busy redesigning the interior space to give a more open feel and allow the fine art to take center stage. Keep reading to learn more about this unique space in Savannah City Market and to get a peek at the work done to bring in a more up-beat feel to the gallery.

When did you originally open in Savannah City Market?
Originating in August 1992, Signature Gallery was the dream that came to life through the imagination and creativity of Kathy Miller, Sharon Saseen, and Mark McKim.  With almost thirty years in the same City Market location, surviving economic ups and downs, we consider ourselves a fixture in Savannah’s art community. Signature has garnered a reputation for fine art that represents many mediums and artistic styles.

How would you describe the gallery? Who does it appeal to?
Signature Gallery is a fine art cooperative gallery that 16 partner, in-residence, local artists call home. Each artist brings to the table their “brand” of artistic talent. From traditional to cutting edge, Signature’s oil, watercolor, mixed media, etchings, photography, acrylic, jewelry, pottery, stained glass, encaustics, and sculpture works grace collections far and wide.

We are fortunate to have a clientele that is both local and transient. Tourism plays a major role in maintaining our success due to the following we have established. People from all walks of life visit us time and again to see what is new or to bring home a piece from one of their favorite Signature artists!

What is the inspiration for the work you share?
Artists are quirky beings. Regardless of the medium they work in, most artists need the camaraderie of other like thinking individuals that actually think outside the box they’re living in. At Signature Gallery, we make up a rather unique artistic family that enjoy bouncing ideas off of one another and the general public that come to visit.

As artists, we all consider it a privilege to have the opportunity to produce such varied pieces of fine art as a whole and then, to be able to enjoy the added advantage of sharing it with our visitors…well, that’s just icing (or should we say paint) on the proverbial cake!

Describe the experience people can expect when they visit your gallery or purchase work from featured artists?
When visiting Signature Gallery, one can always be assured one of our partner artists will be on duty to welcome them and answer questions. Most artists love to talk shop and that’s surely the case here. All of our award-winning partners are well versed on each other’s work and can readily describe the processes that go into creating a piece.

From Kathy Miller’s etchings to Jim Guerard’s photography, there is surely something available at Signature that suits any design requirement and price point. However, should a client wish a custom piece, they can easily call to find when a favored artist is on duty and come in to chat or just give a call or email and the brainstorming can begin!

Along with the physical gallery, a new website was created to delve into the background and artists that make up Signature Gallery. On this site, there is also an online shop view and purchase select pieces directly. To learn more about the Signature Gallery of Savannah, visit in person at 303 West Saint Julian Street Savannah, GA 31401 or online at www.signaturegallerysavannah.com.

Meet the Artist: Lisa Rosenmeir

Art is at the heart of all that we do in Savannah City Market. Providing a central space for artists to create, share, and sell their work is an honor. Keep reading to learn more about our new artist Lisa Rosenmeir. She is located in Studio 104, upstairs in the Art Center (look for the red door).

When did you open in Savannah City Market?

I opened my doors officially on February 8, 2020, with great success. It was a joyous day and my studio was packed for the 6 hours I was open that day.

What made you decide to open in Savannah City Market?

The light, definitely the light. Being a painter, light is very important to me while I work. It keeps my colors true. Plus, the people traveling from other parts of this country and world. This makes me feel right at home having grown up in a military family and moved often. I use to see the world, now the world comes to me.

How would you describe your art?

I often say, “I create in paint the color of life.” My style is a blend of realism and illustration. However, the soul of my work range from the beautiful, detailed views found in everyday life, to more meaningful pieces that can move you emotionally.

Describe the experience people can expect when they visit your studio or purchase your work?

Calm, joy, peace, happiness. Yes, all this can be felt when you walk into my studio. I will be working away on something but that will never keep me from saying, “Hi!’ There are paintings hanging on the walls that, unless marked otherwise, are available for purchase and I have prints too. If you’re just looking, I hope you walk away from my studio with a lighter heart and a smile on your face.

What is your artistic background and inspiration for your work?

I do not have an art degree. One day (my Mother said) I announced, “I could draw better than the weatherman on the news.” (He had drawn a stick figure holding an umbrella). So I got to work drawing. Then when I was 9 years old, my Father took one of my paintings (of a rose) to an artist he knew and asked if it was any good. He said the response he got from the artist was, “Can you paint a rose like that?” As for inspiration, it’s people and life, all life. I paint for you (everyone).

How can people find you online?

I have a website. www.LisaRosenmeier.com where I constantly add things as I make new work. My website is nice, but my studio in City Market is way more interesting! Be bold, be brave, and look at art that moves you.
